While training your dog is it ever okay to punch it?

My lovely father is giving our new dog of about a year a bath. we just got it yesterday. The dog is obviously scared by the way its jumping around and whining and nipped my dad cause he’s holding the dog by his collar. My dad then decided to hit the dog in his face and then yell at my brother and I when we told him not to.

Do i really need to justify why it is wrong to punch a dog?
Well ok, It is animal cruelty, he can be fined and/or put in jail for it.
If this dog is brand new to your environment and pack all that he just did is put the fear of him into it.
What a stupid thing to do as now the dog will NEVER trust him again and you can be sure that if he were to grab the dog again by it`s collar that the dog will remember what happened last time and try to bite him again.
It`s too late now as the dog will always remember this and may even become aggressive to all of you being a part of your fathers pack.
I would just bring the dog back to where you got it from as this type of behavior will only lead to problems in the future with perhaps you ending up having to put the dog to sleep for nothing other than it trying to protect itself.
I don`t normally swear on here but what a dumbas_ your father is.
I am sorry you have to go through this but really consider returning the dog before it`s too late.
If I had your address I would be calling animal cruelty on your father.
